Demetra Geller’s Career as a Chicago Disability Attorney
Demetra was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in 2008. She chose to focus on disability law and joined Nash Disability Law in 2009 soon after becoming a lawyer.
She is also a member of the Chicago Bar Association, where she serves on the Alliance for Women Committee and previously served as chair of the Social Security Disability Law Committee.
Demetra graduated with high honors from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2008. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Indiana University in 2003 with a major in political science and minors in Russian and Eastern European studies and Spanish.
When Demetra went into the legal field, she searched for a client-centered practice area with a focus on social justice, and that led her to Nash Disability Law.
She was inspired by the firm’s family-oriented approach and work ethic.
In addition to the Intake Team, Demetra has worked on the firm’s Hearing Team and the Case Management Team. Her experience gives her the knowledge and insight to assist with the Social Security Disability claim process from beginning to end.

More About Demetra’s Background
Demetra’s Greek Orthodox faith motivates her work as a disability lawyer.
“A central tenet of our faith is service, especially to those who are less fortunate or struggling,” she said. “Service is central to the work we do at Nash Disability Law.”
She has seen in her own family and personal life how people can struggle, including people dealing with addiction and dying because of addiction.
“This work has given me a greater appreciation of a foundational principle of my faith: that we humans are not in a position to, nor should we judge one another. Rather, we are obligated to show forgiveness and understanding. Our clients’ stories and journeys humble me.”
Demetra started her family shortly before her legal career began, with both her and her husband passing the bar exam and becoming attorneys when their son was just eight months old. They had two more children during their first six years of practicing law.
“I like to say I learned to be a lawyer and a parent at the same time,” Demetra said.
Her son, who was just one-and-a-half when she started at Nash Disability Law, is a young adult now.
When Demetra isn’t helping clients or spending time with her family, she’s actively involved in her church.
In her free time, she works in her garden, tries to play tennis as much as she can and enjoys traveling and dining with her husband.
