Hearing offices are set up in certain locations, not in regular field offices. Social Security uses a rotation to choose a judge for your case. If you’re in the Chicago area, you could get assigned to a local hearing office. Or you get a judge elsewhere who handles your claim remotely. Your hearing can be by phone or video. You don’t have to go there. You cannot choose the judge who hears your case.
