Winter Fest: Free Family Fun in Lake County, IL

Are you a winter lover?  Then we have an event for you—Winter Fest in Vernon Hills.  And even if you’re not so keen on winter, this free family event will help you cope with the cold.

Held outdoors in Century Park North near the sled hill, you and your kids can enjoy a day filled with sled dog demonstrations, a live ice sculpting show, a campfire, and (weather permitting) skating and sledding.

Here’s what is planned for Winter Fest on Saturday, January 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.:

  • A sculptor from Chicago Ice Works will create a surprise sculpture. The event sponsor, the Vernon Hills Parks Department, doesn’t reveal his subject in advance because they say, “It’s nice to see it unfold.” In previous years, he’s done a Winnie the Pooh sculpture and Mickey Mouse.
  • A sled dog demo from the Free Spirit Sled Demo Team will let kids get up close to the dogs and watch them do runs around the park.
  • To warm up, there will be a bonfire with free marshmallows that people can roast.
  • There will also be games and activities, and refreshments available for purchase.

Dress for the weather, have fun, and laugh at old man winter at Winter Fest in Vernon Hills.
