Not to be Missed: Chicago’s Own Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater

This fall, Chicago’s own Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater will mark their 50th Anniversary with a not-to-be-missed show at The Auditorium Theater (50 E. Ida B. Wells Drive).

The world-renowned Spanish dance company brings the passionate and expressive rhythms of Spain to life with its expertise in flamenco, folklore, bolero, contemporary and classical dance.

The Ensemble Español was founded in 1976 by the late Dame Libby and is comprised of an amazing 40-person ensemble of extremely talented singers, musicians and guest artists.

The company’s mission is the preservation, presentation, and promotion of the classical, folkloric, flamenco, and contemporary dance and music traditions of Spain. It has long been in residence at Northeastern Illinois University and is under the direction of Artistic Director Suárez Ruiz.

The music and dance company’s show kicks off The Auditorium’s 2025-26 season of five performances (all by female-led dance companies) on Saturday, November 15 @ 7:30 p.m. You can buy your tickets now at The Auditorium’s website: auditoriumtheatre.org

Catherine Head, a contributor to Chicago’s Splash Magazine says, “With Ensemble Español, you really can’t help but to enjoy yourself. It is sexy, it is passionate and exciting, and so very, very entertaining. We are so very lucky to have Ensemble Español in Chicago.”
