See “The Nutcracker” 25 Feet High and for Free at Chicago’s Art on theMart

December 1, 2022

In a one-of-a-kind exhibition of public art in Chicago, you and your family can thrill to a 25-foot-high video projection of the Joffrey Ballet’s presentation of the beloved holiday classic The Nutcracker.

Set to the music of Tchaikovsky’s masterful score, The Nutcracker is presented as part of Art on theMart, which uses an array of 34 digital projectors to display programs on the Merchandise Mart’s 2.5 acre riverfront façade.

The performances run nightly at 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. through December 30 and can be viewed for free from the jetty section of the Chicago Riverwalk on Wacker Drive between Wells Street and Franklin Street. Get there early to stake out the best viewing spots.

In partnership with Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, Art on theMart has offered larger-than-life shows since 2018 for thousands of Chicago-area residents and visitors to the city,
