The Chicago Gospel Music Festival: A Free Inspirational Music Event

May 1, 2024

Urban gospel music has deep roots in Chicago. It was born here and continues to live and thrive in the Windy City.

On Saturday, June 1, a dynamic and inspiring celebration of this musical genre kicks off the summer season in Millennium Park with the 32nd Annual Chicago Gospel Music Festival.

This FREE music event will bring together Chicagoans and visitors of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy the uplifting power of gospel music.

The Gospel Music Festival will feature traditional choirs and contemporary urban gospel music. Event organizers say it will showcase the best in local, national, and international gospel performers.

Headliners for the festival will include: The Rance Allen Group and Jonathan McReynolds, with special guests Anthony Brown & Travis Greene, Vashawn Mitchell, Malcolm Williams & Great Faith, a Tribute to Jessy Dixon, and many more.

All performances take place in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. General seating in the pavilion and on the great lawn is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

“From the blues to hip hop, African Americans have been the driving force of sonic innovation for over a century,” notes the Public Broadcasting System. “Musical styles come and go, but there’s one sound that has been a constant source of strength, courage, and wisdom from the pulpit to the choir lofts on any given Sunday. Gospel [is] the origin story of Black spirituality.”
