Chicago Party Aunt is Chitown!

October 1, 2021

A personal note about Chicago Party Aunt from Tom Nash: “For over 20 years we have had an office in Elgin, Illinois. I met Chris Witaske’s dad Ray through the Kane County Bar Association early in that time period. Ray and I have remained friends over these many years. I followed the career of his son Chris in high school, in the northwest suburbs including St. Charles, the University of Iowa, and eventually the iconic Chicago comedy institution, ‘The Second City.’ The perseverance and hard work of Ray’s son Chris grinding away to get this Netflix Chicago-themed adult animated comedy has been something to behold.”

Go Bears! And check it out. Chicago Party Aunt is Chitown!

Diane Dunbrowski is the life of the party, even when the party ended some time ago. Her complete lack of adult behavior is balanced with a heart of gold and a desire to help others. And Diane is the star of a new animated series which sprang from the imagination and the Twitter account of 38-year-old Chicagoan Chris Witaske. “Chicago Party Aunt” can be seen on Netflix where it premiered on September 17.

A proud Chicagoan, Diane is a middle-aged woman living in Wrigleyville. Deadline.com, a show business website, describes the cartoon character as “[a] die-hard Chicago sports fan and general fan of Italian beef to be washed down with plenty of Malort and beer. Diane would do anything for her city and continues to live every day like it’s a 1980s Styx tour bus.” The wacky and outrageous show features lots of Chicago references and cameos from Chicago legends with more than a few surprises and “Easter eggs.” Diane’s nephew, Daniel, moves in with her during a gap year before attending Stanford. The show centers on their relationship.

Actress Lauren Ash, who voices the lead character, previously lived in Chicago and did comedy at Second City. She offered these insights into the show to Block Club Chicago: “If you aren’t familiar with Chicago, I think the themes that we present and the jokes are universal, and I think that people are going to really have the relationship between Diane and Daniel resonate with them,” Ash said. “I keep saying that people are going to come for the joke, but they’re going to stay for the heart.”
