Everyone deserves relationships free from abuse. Sadly, domestic violence continues to increase in Illinois.*

Abuses that can occur in relationships are not only physical, but they can take many forms, including emotional, psychological, economic and social harm. Help is just a phone call away.

If you are a victim of domestic violence and need safety assistance, call the Illinois Domestic Violence Helpline:

The Helpline is toll free, confidential, multi-lingual and open 24 hours a day.

The Helpline can connect you to domestic violence programs throughout Illinois, which provide a broad range of assistance to victims of domestic violence. Services are free and private. They are available regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, income, disability or sexual orientation. You do not have to leave the abuser or your home to get help.

The Helpline operator will guide you to services which can best assist you.

Services include a 24-hour crisis Helpline that provides:

  • Support
  • Information
  • Referrals
  • Counseling
  • Safety planning
  • Legal advocacy
  • Children’s services
  • Temporary food and housing
  • Teaching people about domestic violence and problems that come with domestic violence
  • Reaching out to people who are victims of domestic violence
  • Teaching people domestic violence is NOT OK
  • Teaching youth in school how to identify and avoid domestic violence
  • Working with police and law enforcement to better protect victims and their families

Programs may also provide:

*Statistics from the Illinois Domestic Helpline show that in 2021 (the most recent full-year statistics available) 32,000 calls were made to the Helpline, a 9% increase over the previous year.
