Meet Elizabeth Mettache
A spotlight on one of the professional team members who works for you at Nash Disability Law
“I try to treat any client I help like I was handling my mom’s case,” relates Nash Disability Law Case Manger Elizabeth Mettache. This is not hyperbole on Elizabeth’s part. “I’m a CODA—a Child Of a Deaf Adult—my mom has a permanent hearing loss, and she receives SSDI benefits for her disability. This is a big part of my interest in disability law. When I work with our clients, I make sure they get the level of attention and respect I would want for her.”
Elizabeth juggles a wide range of tasks for the firm. “I handle client cases from the initial stage, through the reconsideration phase and up to the scheduled hearing date,” she notes. “I act as the bridge between Social Security’s Disability Determination Service and Nash clients. If they need help completing any Social Security forms, I am there to assist them. And if they have questions, I am there for that too. Often our clients need other resources like financial aid, mental health providers, or lawyer referrals, for example. Whatever the client may need at the time I always do my best to help out, even if it’s just an ear to listen.”
“I like explaining the ins and outs of SSA and the disability process. I like getting a call where someone has no idea what they need help with and then ending the call with them feeling like they understand what is happening in their case.”
In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys spending time with her partner and her 20-year-old cat, Toulouse, and expressing her creative side. “I’ve tried just about every creative endeavor at least once,” she says with a smile. “I have a creative writing degree, so I love to write. My focus in writing is creative non-fiction, but I’ve also enjoyed writing fiction, screenplays and poetry. My poetry has been published in the past. I love to sew and cosplay. I also play a lot of video games, and I am a very avid film fan.”
She is an ardent supporter of the non-for-profit Association of Late Deafened Adults (ALDA) and is passionate about LQBTQIA+ matters. When asked for a favorite quote which helps explain who she is and what she believes in, she offers this line from Khaled Hosseini’s novel The Kite Runner: ‘For you a thousand times over.’ She explains “to me that quote means a willingness to be selfless and to put others first. I like to bring that attitude into the work I do here at Nash.”
